Goris is one of the ancient places in Armenia that was settled since Stone Age. The explanation for the name means “gor” as “rock” in Indo-European prelanguage, and “es” as “to be.”

Armavir is one of the ancient capitals of Armenia located 1 km west of the 17th-century village of Armavir.The area of ancient Armavir was inhabited since the 6th millennium BC.

The village of Lchashen is on the northern slope of the Geghama Mountain range. The excavations revealed traces of prehistoric castle-fortresses, cemeteries and separate obelisks.

Artashat is a town in Armenia and the administrative center of the Ararat Region. It is situated on the Araks River in the Ararat plain, 30 km southeast of Yerevan.

Dvin was a large commercial city and the capital of early medieval Armenia. It was situated north of the previous ancient capital Artashat, along the banks of the Metsamor River.
