Vorotan River Canyon

Visiting the magnificent Canyon of Vorotan River once in a lifetime is a must. Its dazzling view will be live in your heart and mind if not for the whole of your life then for the considerable part of it.

Vorotan Canyon is located in Syunik Region. It is more than 100 meters deep and the widest point reaches to 3 kilometers. The canyon seems, by all accounts, to be particularly amazing because of the River of Vorotan, which starts from Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) plateau. The river is 178 kilometers in length and has a basin of 5650 square kilometers.

The river starts from Davagyoz Mountain and falls into the immense Spandarian Reservoir. It likewise nourishes the historical Angeghakot village, which lies northwest of Sisian and flows through a few deep canyons and by Stone Age cave-dwellings and medieval castles, monasteries and villages. Moreover, the river passes by Vorotnavank, the Fortress of David Bek and the warm waters of Vorotan and falls intoShambi Reservoir.
