Getik Valley Rural Tour

Getik Valley is one of the most picturesque places in Armenia that reaches up to the Tavush region’s Aghavanavank and Gosh villages, through mountain ranges of Areguni and Miapor. During the millennia, river broke through the mountain and rocks, dug its riverbed and created an amazing natural monument, Getik Valley.
Getik Valley, as well as the whole Armenia has attractive and unique places of interest. The gorgeous nature is simply a miracle full of mountains, valleys, founts, rills and forests. The creature didn’t save any single color here; the valley is beautiful during the whole year.

Day 1. Meet your guide and leave Yerevan for Getik village. Arrival in Getik B&B which is not just a guest-house but an Armenian hearth and home in a cozy area in Gegharkunik Region covered with Alpine meadows and age-old forests. Together with the local people we will participate in a master class to learn grain processing and cooking of Armenian traditional dessert.
After the master class we will meet with the beekeeper. We will wear special clothes here in order to get acquainted with fairy world of bees and will be special participant of honey making process. While being in degustation hall, we will be able to try the beemilk, beebread and the honey with tea. We will also obtain some skills for ceramics by making honey pots. The bee products are also used as a remedy which you can from the villager.

Hiking to Karmir Eghtsi or Old Getik monastery dating back to 9th-12th centuries. The monastery is deep in the forest surrounded with pure nature. To have a rest and enjoy our meal, we will stop near the Chatindara waterfall that is about 10 meters in height. The waterfall is one of the natural wonders of the village Martuni.
Visit Karmir Eghtsi monastery that was a large monastery surrounded with villages. You will find cross stones of complex architectural solutions and other wonderful carvings spread in around the monastery.

After returning to Getik village and a rest, we get acquainted with the region’s most exclusive handmade souvenirs by qualified designers. We have the opportunity to participate in a master class of preparing souvenirs from wood, stones, natural fibers, flowers and other natural materials.
Traditional dinner and overnight at the B&B.

Day 2. After breakfast with local food, we will participate in a masterclass of making goat cheese. The recipe of making “motal” cheese (cheese which is kept in the goatskin while preparing) from the goat milk has been known in different mountainous regions of Armenia for centuries. It is made of exclusively natural coagulant. Motal cheese is unique and it’s considered to be a reginal brand.

Continue our tour to traditional art center for a carpet workshop. Armenian carpets reflect the history, religion, culture and lifestyle of the nation. The workshop will open for you the secrets of making historical and timeless carpets of the locals. During the masterclass we will get acquainted with the traditional process of thread making, wool processing, fibers braiding, carpets weaving.

Hiking to the fort of Akhchala which is located at the foot of the mount Mourguz(2993m). The significance of the fort was in preventing the attacked of the enemy and keeping the neighborhoods safe. Stop for a picnic in an open air.

On our way back we will visit a small nice lake called Getik to enjoy the peaceful nature. It’s possible to fish and walk on horses around the lake (upon request).
