St. Marineh Church

St. Marine Church is located in Ashtarak town and was built in 1281 from brownish black smooth face tufa stone. The church is a cruciform central-plan from inside and rectangular from exterior (11.45 X 8.88 meters) and drum of the dome is round from inside, decahedral from the outside. A belfry attached to the southern wing was erected in 1838. On the south facade a solar clock is preserved. St. Marine church is striking the eye with emphasized rising shapes, with the elegance of its drum and tall dome.

Alongside with other beautiful churches in Ashtarak town, St. Marineh Church (1281) represents a unique example of the Armenian medieval church architecture. Rectangular on the outside, the church is a central-dome cruciform on the inside. The dome boasts a polyhedral drum and tent roof. The entrance is from the south. The church is built from orange tufa and lime cement.

The exterior facing of the drum and the façades along with the cornices were renovated in 1950, the roofs were covered with stone slabs. The area was renovated and the remains of the outer wall were fortified in 1976
